Projects and articles of Ruben Corthout
ResearcherRuben Corthout graduated in a civil engineering and holds a PhD degree in Transportation Engineering from the Traffic & Infrastructure department of the KU Leuven. Since 2012 he works as a senior researcher at TML. He is mainly specialised in dynamic traffic simulations, designing intelligent traffic light controls, and multimodal traffic management. Based on this expertise, he is jointly responsible for supporting the macroscopic dynamic traffic models (MDVM) of Antwerp and the Flemish Border, the roll-out of the new traffic light coordination center (VLCC) in Antwerp, and the conversion of the A12.
Models for Optimizing Dynamic Urban Mobility
Elaboration of the mobility aspect within the plan-EIR for the Antwerp tangents A102/R11bis
Development of a Transport Model
Development of a combined traffic engineering – transport economic model
Dynamic Traffic Model Antwerp
Development of a macroscopic dynamic traffic model for the Antwerp region.
Dynamic traffic models capture travel times and traffic jams in a realistic manner and are therefore ideally suited for scenario analyses at local and regional level to support dynamic traffic management.
Blauwe Boulevard Hasselt
Analysis and layout of traffic light control on the Slachthuiskaai in Hasselt.
Development of a toolkit for the modeling of emerging transport solutions.
Microscopic traffic simulation Leuven Ringroad
Traffic analysis (microscopic simulation) of the Leuven Ringroad (R23)
Design of Road Traffic Management Albania
TML is participating in the development of a traffic management system for Albania. To do this, we first look at the needs of the various parties and the financial feasibility. Finally, we work out a system architecture and organisational model in detail, including an estimate of all costs to be incurred.
Redesigning the A12 as a primary road
As part of Team A12, TML is studying the redesign of the A12 to improve safety and traffic flow for all road users.
Management System for the Traffic Lights in Antwerp
Design and implementation of an innovative management system and control strategy.
Simulations of new intersection designs on the Kempische Steenweg (N74) and circulation measures on the Hasselt Ring road (R71).
