From 2019 to 2022
The Horizon 2020 MOMENTUM project developed new analysis methods and planning tools to understand the impact of emerging mobility solutions on urban mobility and support cities in policy development. TML developed a detailed traffic model that was applied in the Leuven case study.
Disruptive technologies and emerging mobility solutions such as MaaS (mobility as a service), CAVs (connected and autonomous vehicles), new shared mobility services, and demand-driven transport are driving radical changes in urban mobility. The aim of the Horizon 2020 MOMENTUM project was to develop a set of new data analysis methods, transport models, and planning support tools that would be able to
The tools developed were tested through a number of case studies in four European cities that differ in size, morphology, environmental, socio-economic, cultural, and policy factors. Besides Leuven, these are Madrid, Regensburg, and Thessaloniki. The MOMENTUM project started in May 2019 and ran for three years under the CIVITAS initiative, an EU-funded programme to enable sustainable and smart mobility for all.
Within MOMENTUM, TML developed a new, detailed traffic model that could be used to compare different measures. This was applied to the city of Leuven.

- capture the impact of these new transport options on the urban mobility ecosystem and
- support cities in designing the right policy mix to exploit the full potential of these emerging mobility solutions.
