Second actualisation of the strategic traffic model StraVeM

From 2026 to 2027
TML is updating StraVeM, the strategic traffic model for the province of Utrecht. By incorporating recent traffic data, changes to the road network, and updated forecasts, we are ensuring that the model remains a reliable tool for mobility studies and policy decisions.
Traffic models need to be updated regularly to provide an accurate picture of traffic conditions. Since the previous version of StraVeM, much has changed in the province of Utrecht. Roads have been modified, public transport services have changed, and both the population and mobility needs have evolved.
StraVeM is therefore being updated for both the base year and the forecast year. For the base year, we are incorporating changes to the road network and public transport services, correcting existing network errors, and updating socioeconomic data. We then calibrate the model using traffic counts and validate its results against observed journey times and congestion levels.
The future scenarios are also being updated. This includes planned changes to the road network and public transport services, new population and socioeconomic forecasts, and revised cost parameters.
With these updates, the province of Utrecht will once again have a reliable traffic model to support informed policy decisions.
