Regional Fleet Composition Belgium

From 2013 to 2014
Belgium drafts air emission inventories for the transport sector as part of its international obligations. Each region in Belgium (Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels) developed its inventories in order to produce the consolidated Belgian national emission inventory.

This segregated approach caused inconsistencies between the different regions and produced inconsistent output at national level. After analysis, the Coordination Committee for International Environmental Policy (CCIEP) concluded that the inconsistencies were indeed related to discrepancies in the regional fleet.

The project goal was to harmonize and improve the statistical data to produce a consistent fleet composition to be used in emission inventories. TML constructed a tool that meets the following requirements:
  • To develop a consistent methodology to transform the different data sources available into inputs for generating historical and future vehicle fleets
  • Historic regional fleet composition for the years 1990 to 2012
  • Being able to make fleet projections in a business-as-usual scenario for the years 2015, 2020, 2025, and 2030
