Railway junction Oude Landen

How can we strengthen sustainable freight transport to and from the Port of Antwerp?
A new double-track, electrified railway line between Antwerp-North and Lier will be a key part of the solution. It will improve rail access to the port and encourage a modal shift from road to rail for freight transport. The project begins at the grade-separated junction at ‘Oude Landen’ in Ekeren. This upgrade will tackle existing bottlenecks and enhance rail safety.

To ensure broad societal support, a master planner will develop an integrated approach that considers liveability (noise, air quality, green space), climate resilience, and opportunities for active and public transport. The plan must also align with local projects and account for cumulative effects.

TML contributes expertise in railway operations and capacity, providing traffic forecasts and cost-benefit analyses. These help evaluate long-term societal impacts and ensure that proposed solutions are effective, realistic, and fair.
