Simulation tool public transport

Our new public transport simulation tool allows planners, policymakers, and mobility experts to assess how changes to public transport services affect passenger numbers, travel patterns, accessibility, and operating costs.

How many more passengers could you attract by doubling the frequency of a train or tram service? How much would it cost to introduce new bus routes? And how would passenger flows change if flexible transport were introduced? Our new public transport simulation tool is designed to help planners, policymakers, and mobility experts answer questions like these.

TML developed a user-friendly tool that shows the impact of changes to public transport services. From network changes and cost estimates to passenger numbers, the tool brings together infrastructure, services, travel behaviour, and accessibility in a single integrated model. This allows users to simulate, evaluate, and compare different scenarios in a transparent and evidence-based way.

The development focused on modelling demand, the transport network, and operating costs. The tool also incorporates a synthetic population and travel choice behaviour, providing detailed insights into modal shift and first- and last-mile travel. TML is responsible for developing the entire model, from data integration and calibration to visualisation.
