TML is supporting the mobility study for a new industrial road in Torhout with traffic simulations that assess the impact on the R34 and the surrounding road network.
The connection of a new industrial road with the R34 at the roundabout with the N32 could have a significant impact on traffic flow in the area. To gain an understanding of these effects and to compare various possible junction solutions, both the current and future traffic situations are being analysed.
TML is carrying out microsimulations for the R34 x N32 junction. In addition to the existing roundabout, we are examining three different future scenarios: a fifth arm on the existing roundabout, an optimised roundabout, and a traffic-light-controlled junction. We are also analysing the impact on surrounding streets such as Ambachtstraat, Atelierstraat, Industrielaan, and Oude Gentweg.
At the request of Torhout City Council, we are also conducting microsimulations of the surrounding junctions R34 Noordlaan x Aartrijkestraat and R34 Noordlaan x Industrielaan. This provides a broader picture of the traffic impact and a sound basis for weighing up the various solutions against one another.
