LEZ Port of Antwerp
This project investigated the environmental cost-effectiveness and the social costs and benefits of introducing a low-emission zone (LEZ) in the port area of Antwerp. To this end, the effects of an LEZ on the composition of traffic and its emissions in the port area were analysed. Subsequently, the effects on air quality and the exposure of the population to air pollution were studied. In addition, an estimate was made of the costs to the Port Authority of a possible introduction of an LEZ in the port area in the event of control and enforcement by the Port Authority itself, and a step-by-step plan was drawn up. Finally, a social cost-benefit analysis of the introduction of an LEZ in the Antwerp port area was drawn up on the basis of the elements from the previous analyses.
