Framework contract for traffic safety analyses

24108
From 2025 to 2029
Under this framework agreement, TML supports De Werkvennootschap with analyses that contribute to a safe and future-proof road infrastructure in Flanders.

Road safety is a fundamental prerequisite in the development and redesign of infrastructure. Large-scale projects affect all road users, making a well-considered safety analysis at every stage of the project essential.

Through this framework agreement, TML carries out road safety analyses for De Werkvennootschap. In practice, this mainly involves road safety impact assessments (RSIA) and road safety audits (RSA). Both instruments aim to identify risks at an early stage, objectively highlight bottlenecks, and formulate concrete recommendations to make infrastructure safer and more robust.

A road safety impact assessment (RSIA) is a strategic comparison of the effects that a new road or a major modification to the existing road network has on road safety. At a strategic level, such an assessment shows the impact of different project alternatives on road safety within the planning process. RSIAs are a legal requirement for infrastructure projects, including all motorways and primary roads in Flanders. TML has extensive expertise in conducting road safety impact assessments.
A road safety audit (RSA) assesses the safety of a road infrastructure project. This type of assessment can be carried out at all stages of a project, from planning to initial operation. The aim of the audit is to identify at an early stage whether and how the road may pose risks to safety. This enables the road authority to address these risks during the design process, just before (re)opening a road, or shortly after it has come into use. A road safety audit is a mandatory part of the design process for roads on the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Increasingly, such audits are also being conducted on other roads.

TML is currently carrying out a road safety audit for the redesign of the Brussels Ring at Vilvoorde. As a mobility experts, the team brings in-depth knowledge in the fields of road safety, data analysis, and infrastructure design.
