Environmental Impact Assessment for the E403 redesign

TML is supporting AWV in preparing for the redevelopment of the E403 between the E40 and the Chartreuse exit. We are analysing the transport impacts of the preferred scenario and providing the transport-related input for the project’s environmental impact assessment.
Making a busy motorway safer whilst simultaneously improving traffic flow requires a careful assessment of various solutions. In a previous phase of this project, several scenarios were therefore examined, including a third lane and alternative layouts. This analysis took into account not only the effects on traffic but also the impact on factors such as air quality, noise, and health, both during the construction phase and in the final situation.
In this follow-up study, TML is assessing the mobility impacts of the preferred scenario and is responsible for the mobility analyses within the project’s environmental impact assessment report. We are carrying out traffic analyses and macro- and micro-simulations to assess the consequences of the preferred scenario and the development scenario – which also involves modifications to the E403 south of the interchange. These results form the basis for the environmental impact assessment in the mobility discipline and also serve as input for other disciplines such as air quality and noise.
The report is being drawn up in collaboration with Antea, which is responsible for coordination and the other environmental disciplines, and Evolta, which is developing the technical design.
