On 4 May 2012, the Flemish Government approved the Green Paper on the Spatial Planning Policy “Flanders in 2050: Human Scale in a metropolis?”. This Green Paper forms the starting point for the White Paper.
The project team assisted in the further development of this White Paper, doing preparatory policy supporting work and backing policy implementation.
TML supported the team with research on the key issue “Connecting Flanders with the world”, which will enable Flanders to make a number of bold choices, allowing it to become a metropolis. To this end, we used existing traffic models, data sources, literature, databases, etc. to determine the current infrastructure situation. We provided a scientific background to the research questions at hand through secondary research. The translation into an approach that involves a greater degree of spatial planning for Flanders as done by means of descriptive research. We considered the elimination of existing bottlenecks and methods by which Flanders can best assess future traffic demand with a selection of -new- modes of transportation.
