Data lens Flemish Brabant

Flemish Brabant has the densest network of Telraam sensors, but is not yet making the most of the data. TML translates this data into practical applications for local mobility.

Thanks to earlier initiatives, Flemish Brabant has the densest network of Telraam sensors in the world. While these sensors generate a wealth of traffic data, many users struggle to extract the insights they need. Citizens often lack the tools, and local mobility officers simply don’t have the time. This project aims to change that.

Together with mobility experts, data scientists and researchers, we’re developing user-friendly tools that translate raw traffic data into clear, practical insights. Rather than starting from the data itself, we start from the needs of the users — policymakers, residents, and other local stakeholders — to avoid creating complex tools that end up unused.

TML focuses on translating mobility data into practical applications for local authorities. Whether it’s monitoring bicycle flows, detecting cut-through traffic, or evaluating the impact of local events, we explore how smart technologies like machine learning can help deliver timely, relevant insights to support local mobility policy.
