Development of a Transport Model

From 2013 to 2016
The goal of this project was the development a model that describes both traffic engineering effects and transport economic effects of mobility measures. Impacts on the total amount of trips, on origin-destination choice, on departure time choice, on mode choice, on route choice, and the impact on traffic flow are all accounted for in the model. The combination of both elements allows for integrated analyses that are superior to the state-of-the-art.

The combined traffic engineering – transport economic model integrates transport economic elements into the iterative process of the traffic engineering model. The total number of trips is dependent on the cost of the trips. An origin-destination choice model and a departure time choice model are added to the iterative traffic engineering model.

Lots of mobility issues exist, where both traffic engineering and transport economic effects are important to consider. Following applications can be analyzed in a superior way based on the integrated model:

- Transport forecasts
- Social Cost-Benefit analyses of transport infrastructure
- Pricing policy
- Parking policy
- Environmental policy
- Traffic Management
- The introduction of new vehicle types
- The introduction of flexitime
