Evaluation framework temporary traffic measures

Many towns and municipalities realised temporary bicycle infrastructure or took traffic measures because of COVID-19. Many of these measures were aimed at creating sufficient space – for pedestrians in the first place, but also for the increased bicycle traffic.
How do you evaluate the effect of these measures? Have they been useful? What can we learn from them for the mobility system in general and bicycle traffic in particular? Fietsberaad Vlaanderen wants to support cities and towns in this evaluation. Dirk Engels (Transport & Mobility Leuven) is a European authority in the field of mobility evaluation. Commissioned by Fietsberaad Vlaanderen, he drew up an evaluation framework for temporary traffic measures.

In order to learn how to use the evaluation framework, Fietsberaad Flanders organised a webinar on Thursday 25 June on the evaluation of temporary traffic measures. The webinar can help you find out what effect the measure had, whether or not it might be useful to keep it or (also) apply it in other places. For temporary traffic measures that have nothing to do with COVID-19, the framework could also provide some interesting material to support the decision-making process at the local level.
