Commercial Vehicle of the Future – IRU Working Group

Commercial vehicle of the future, operating on the infrastructure of the future to ensure efficiency gains, CO2 reduction and increased safety in road transport

TML assisted the IRU (International Road transport Union) in discovering the features of the commercial vehicle of the future, in terms of improvements in CO2 emissions, safety and operational efficiency.

Through a process of stakeholder interaction, desk research and validation, a picture was drawn of the commercial vehicle of the future in 2050. Following a backtracking approach, the timeline to achieve the objectives was set out, describing the intermediate steps in 2020, 2025, 2030, 2035, 2040 and 2045.

The project covered freight transport in three markets: long haul, regional delivery and urban delivery.
