Transalpine Road Freight Transport
Traffic management systems for transalpine road freight transport
Finding a solution for the problems associated with transalpine freight traffic is one of the most persistent challenges of transport policy making in Europe.
This study searched for traffic management systems for transalpine road freight transport. Such systems, combining an adequate range of economic and regulatory measures, lead to an overall improvement of the efficiency and the environmental and safety situations at the same time.
The study has identified and assessed all relevant traffic management systems to show their limits, preconditions and expected outcomes. Also, the potential efficiency improvements on detour traffic, congestion, safety problems, emissions etc. have been studied.
