New Tramlines in Brussels

Traffic engineering design of new tramlines around Brussels

Commissioned by De Lijn Vlaams-Brabant, TML assisted Tractebel Engineering SA in elaborating the traffic engineering concept for the three priority tramlines around Brussels:

  • Tramline between Willebroek and Brussels along the A12 (22 km)
  • Tramline between Jette and Zaventem (18 km)
  • Tramline between Brussels and Zaventem Airport (5 km)

TML analysed the traffic system on the corridors, namely the lines between Zaventem airport to NATO and from Zaventem to Vilvoorde. The analysis included an extensive counting campaign. The most complex points were simulated with the dynamic simulation model VISSIM.
Based on this analysis, TML designed the traffic planning concept for the integration of the tram lines.
This is the basis for drafting the reference design required for the establishment of a DBFM contract (Design, Build, Finance and Maintenance) to create these lines.
