Trade facilitation impact
Improving the efficiency of importing and exporting containers by using an advanced electronic system
TNO is investigating how an advanced electronic system can improve the efficiency of importing and exporting containers at Dutch ports (both in terms of waiting time and administrative burden). This system will combine e-customs, e-documents, financial services, track & trace…
Transport & Mobility Leuven will calculate the effect of the cost reduction on the volume of containers handled at the Dutch ports (port of Rotterdam being the most important) and on the distribution of the benefits among the port of Rotterdam, Dutch consumers/producers and foreign consumers/producers.
In order to calculate the impact of this trade facilitation system TML uses the World Container Model (WCM). The effect of the trade facilitation system is modeled as a reduction of the handling costs at the ports, which has an effect on the route choice of global container transporters.
