Strategic Freight Model Flanders

Policy support using the strategic freight model Flanders

One of the instruments within the cluster 'Strategic Research'  of the Traffic Centre (part of the Flemish Government - Department of Mobility and Public Works) is the strategic freight model Flanders. This traffic model, built in VB.NET and VISUM, contains four building blocks:

  • input data on supply and demand for the base year (socio-demographic data and networks)
  • input data on supply and demand for the future year (socio-demographic data and networks)
  • modeling tools
  • parameters for the different sub-models

This model describes the transport of goods on a daily basis, modelling the use of the following modes:

  • road traffic (trucks)
  • rail transport (block trains, spread transport and intermodal transport)
  • inland water transport (direct and intermodal)

More information about the model is available on the website of the Traffic Centre: http://www.verkeerscentrum.be/verkeersinfo/faq/verkeersmodellen

TML will support the calculations with the strategic freight model Flanders for policy support for one year as from September 2015.
