Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Usability of unmanned aerial vehicles as a platform for registration equipment

TML started a study, funded by ‘Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship’, on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) within mobility research projects.
The study includes the analysis of the following elements:

  • available UAV technology and usable registration equipment
  •  legal framework
  •  relevant applications within applied and fundamental research

The purpose of this study is an objective analysis of the usability of UAVs as a platform for registration equipment. In the past decade, a multitude of technologies and platforms have become available for researchers that allow gathering data in relation to mobility questions. However, not all technologies are equally suitable, mature or cost-efficient. This study allows TML to assess the possibilities for UAVs for use in research and applied mobility projects.
