The making of a plan-MER for the construction of the AX between the N31 in Bruges and the N49 in Westkapelle
The most important objective of this project was making up a notification file and an environmental impact report for the plan concerning the construction of the AX. There were no concrete designs available for the realisation of the AX and several alternatives had to be considered.
TML has examined the traffic flows on the realised AX and on the road network in the surroundings of it with the multimodal traffic model, both for normative working days and for top tourist days. The origin - destination matrix for the tourist traffic have been calculated by TML. We examined not only the complete new connection, but also 3 alternative ground plans under Westkapelle, 2 alternatives between the N31 and the Boudewijnkanaal, plus several types of connection complexes on the N49 and on the N31.
The judgements which were done in the "streefbeeldstudie" for the AX
and in the Strategic Plan and the plan-MER for the port of Zeebrugge,
were taken into account.
