Integrated spatial-economic-ecological model development and implementation for Belgium

The main objective of the ISEEM project was to develop and implement an integrated spatial-economic-ecological modelling approach for Belgium, and the ISEEM model is the final result. This model enables a balanced analysis of sustainability and transport policies by integrating social, economic, transportation and environmental objectives.

The ISEEM modelling approach represents the state-of-the-art in many different areas of knowledge and, is superior to many other models available for Belgium. The ISEEM model thus provides the Belgian community with sound scientific support for formulating sustainability policies. The use of this approach will assist implementation of the EU strategy for sustainable development in Belgium as well as efficient incorporation of the sustainability goals into existing Belgian policy tools on regional and federal levels. It will also be used to calculate the economic effects of transport policies and infrastructure projects within Flanders and Belgium.

The documentation of the model, as well as the model code and the base data are available to the public. The use of the model, however, requires a fully functional version of GAMS and the MCP solver PATH. More information on this software can be found on http://www.gams.com. This website also features a test version of the GAMS software, though this version is not powerful enough to run the entire model
