IMMI2

Calculation of air quality along waterways and in ports

IMMI2 was a follow-up study to the IMMI study that was done in 2004 (see IMMI). Lot 3 of this follow-up study was performed by Transport & Mobility Leuven, together with the Dutch institute TNO.

The aim of Lot 3 of this study was to calculate the air quality along waterways and ports in Flanders. The calculations were based on emission data from the EMMOSS model (see EMMOSS). However, in this study the geographical resolution of the emission data was increased. 3 scenarios were analysed: a reference scenario (for 2010, 2015 and 2020), a "Europe" scenario based on the MIRA-S 2009 Europe scenario (for 2015 and 2020) and a scenario taking measures into account (for 2015).

Based on a Gaussian plume dispersion model ("Pluim Vaarweg"),  concentrations of NO2, PM10 en PM2,5 were calculated. Both the contribution of vessels and total concentrations (contribution + background) and checks against limit values were reported in the form of GIS maps.
